1. Does the 750M work just like the 750NAV?
A: 750M operation is identical to the 750NAV with the exception of a few short calibration steps that are required when the 750M is moved from vehicle to vehicle. You get the same user friendly user interface, accurate positioning, and smart route calculation that the 750NAV is known for.
2. I have a 750NAV installed in my car and I want to make my Navigation & Information System with me when I travel via airplane. Can I convert my 750NAV to a 750M?
A: Yes. With the 750NAV Mobility Kit accessory, just remove the Display and the Navigation Computer form the 750NAV Docking Station and place them in the carry case of the 750NAV Mobility Kit. You now have a 750M and can take your Navigation and Information System with you on the airplane to be used in your rental car while navigating unfamiliar cities.

3. I have three vehicles, a sedan, and SUV, and an RV. Can I use the 750M in each of those vehicles?
A: The 750M can be used in any vehicle. Just plug in the vehicle's accessory power port. Seasoned users create different vehicle types for each of the vehicles that the 750M is commonly operated in. This reduces calibration time and improves positioning accuracy.
4. Can I use the 750M in any vehicle or only newer vehicles?
A: The 750M is very car independent. Where our competitors require Vehicle Speed Sensor from the vehicle, we do not. As a result, our products will work on just about anything that rolls. We were able to do this be developing a patent pending approach to deriving Vehicle speed by different methods other than obtaining from the vehicle itself. We call it VIP for Vehicle Independent Positioning. And it is also what allows us to make a system that is completely portable without sacrificing one ounce of accuracy or performance.
This is significant in that the need to attach the system to the VSS means several things to the consumer:
-
Install can take several hours more and cost several hundred dollars more in labor costs.
-
Not all cars have VSS pulses. Older cars use a mechanical system for indicating speed to the odometer. For these vehicles, competing systems require an additional piece of electronics for synthesizing the speed pulses, i.e. more labor and material costs to the consumer.
-
A proper connection to VSS is frequently difficult to find and varies by the quality of the installer. Many installers cut corners and attach directly to the Anti-Lock Brakes and thereby taking a chance on interfering with the proper operation of that system. This situation would rarely ever be made known to the vehicle owner.
-
Vehicles are going more and more to electronic busses that carry multiple signals under the dash as opposed to dedicated wiring. In order to obtain the VSS pulse, additional hardwire specific to the make and model of the car are often needed. Additionally, while there are attempts to standardize on a common bus architecture, none has emerged yet. This requires special interface modules that are vehicle specific, which can delay installation and increase cost.
-
Moving the system from car to car can be laborious or impossible due to the high integration of the system into the vehicle.

5. When I pickup my rental car in a new city and setup the 750M, will it know where I am at or do I have to tell it where I am at?
A: The 750M has an "Auto-Map Switching" feature that detects that it has changed locations when it is powered up and after placement of the GPS antenna. This only takes a few minutes and if usually completed by the time you have finished the setup. All you have to do is tell the 750M where you would like to go. It's like having your own personal welcoming committee and travel guide all in one.
6. Will the Airport X-Ray machine damage the 750M?
A: No. The 750M was made to take on the road and the Airport X-Ray machine poses no problem.
7. Can I check the 750M as baggage on a plane, train, or bus?
A: While Magellan / Thales have made the 750M very rugged and travel hazard proof, they recommend good sense be used in the care of the unit. It is recommended that you do not check the 750M as baggage. Treat the unit as you would your laptop computer.

8. What if I find my vehicle's accessory power port fuse is blown and I need to get to a destination right away?
A: The 750M battery can power the 750M and will get you to your destination and to a service station to find a fuse. The Battery can power the 750M for periods up to 1 hour (dependent upon initial charge condition and age of the battery) by placing the battery charger mode selection switch in the "Battery" position. This feature can also be used for airport security checks.
9. If I leave the 750M on in my vehicle after I turn the engine off, will it drain my battery?
A: The 750M automatically detects if the engine is running and will shut down the 750M when the engine is turned off. Likewise the 750M will automatically start when the engine is turned on. All the convenience of the 750NAV... Only Portable!
10. How do I charge the 750M Battery?
A: The 750M automatically trickle charges the Battery when the 750M Battery Charger Mode Selector Switch is placed in "Automatic". There is no action required on behalf of the user. The Battery is not charged when the Mode Selector Switch is placed in "Battery" or "Off". You can charge your battery away from the 750M by using an Auto Nav 750M Battery Charger to charge your Magellan 750M battery in your house, hotel, or office when the 750M is not being used. You can also purchase an additional 750M batteries and AC/DC battery charger for a backup from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc.
11. Can I charge the 750M battery at home or in my hotel room?
A: The 750M must be charged using the supplied Battery Charger and Power Adapter plugged into a running vehicle. The ignition sensing feature of the 750M for automatically running the 750M on and off prevents the 750M from being charged from household current. And you can also use an optional Auto Nav 750M battery charger when your battery is low if you do not wish to drive your vehicle to charge the 750M battery.
12. Can I operate the 750M without the battery?
A: No. The 750M should not be used without the battery. Operation without the battery may allow loss of last position and address data. Additionally, 12 volts exists at the battery cable connector when the 750M is operated with the battery removed. By purchasing an additional Auto Nav 750M battery charger and battery, you can always be sure that your 2nd back up battery is fully charged at all times. So you can use it even when you are not in your vehicle.
13. Can I operate the 750M with the Battery at less than full charge?
A: Yes. The Battery Status Indicator on the Battery Charger should indicate 70% or greater. You can operate the 750M below this level but will not be able to use the battery to power the 750M and also take the risk of losing last position and other destination information upon an inadvertent shutdown of the 750M. Consistent low battery level indications indicate that the battery should be replaced.
14. How long can I operate the 750M on the Battery?
A: You can operate the 750M for up to 1 hour on the battery depending on the initial charge status of the battery, temperature, and life of the battery.
15. When I replace the 750M Battery, will I lose my address book data or any other data?
A: With the 750M shutdown, replacing the battery poses no problems and no data of any sort is at risk at being lost.
16. Can I route from Bangor, ME to San Francisco, CA?
A: You must route to other cities along your route and within your Map Area. Routing must be done in segments from each data base map coverage area. The United States and Canada are divided into 10 Map Areas and routing is only allowed within the Map Area. When you route across Map Areas, the 750M will automatically detect the crossing and switch to the new Map Area allowing you to begin routing to the next interim city.
17. Can I use the 750M to navigate in other countries?
A: Currently the only mapping data available is for the United States and Canada.
Back to Top | Back to Operation
18. Does the 750M contain map data for every city, town, highway, street, and road in the United States and Canada?
A: Not every City in the United States and Canada is included in the 750M Map Area Database. Detailed map data is included for thousands of cities and surrounding suburbs. Major federal, state, and county roads are included between towns with a population of less than 500 that do not contain a lot of detail. Magellan continues to add new cities, streets, and roads. Check map coverage and availability by calling AutoNav 2000 Plus, Inc. at (1 408-298-8188)
Note: NAVTEQ mapping software company is currently mapping Coast to Coast U.S cities with detailed map coverage. We are anticipating the detailed U.S Coast to Coast map coverage to be available in 3rd to 4th quarter of 2002 from Magellan / Thales. This improved mapping from NAVTEQ will allow the end user to route to almost any current Inter-Town area with detailed map coverage turn-by-turn instructions. Stay tuned for new and exciting updates.
19. Do I have to buy new Map Area data every year?
A: You may purchase Map Area updates whenever you wish. Streets and highways continue to evolve after the mapping data is developed. Overtime a consumer may determine that the area has changed sufficiently to warrant getting a new map database and can call AutoNav 2000 Plus, Inc. to purchase a new update. (1 408-298-8188)
Back to Top | Back to Operation
20. Can I use the 750M in my Off-Road Vehicle or when I go Off-Roading?
A: Yes. The 750M includes the new Off-Road Navigation Feature which combines the utility of Magellan's famous handheld GPS unit for leaving waypoints or tracks and then routing back. Off Road Navigation even includes an inclinometer so you know how aggressive your terrain is.
21. What is the Warranty of the 750M?
A: The 750M carries the standard Magellan warranty of one year.
Back to Top | Back to Operation
22. How reliable is the 750M? What do you do if there is a problem?
A: If the 750M is anything like its predecessor the Pathmaster, the consumer should enjoy years of reliable service. The Pathmaster was near bullet proof. All of Magellan vehicle navigation products are designed to withstand the rigors of the vehicle environment. These are not PCs designed for your home or office desk.
The procedure for dealing with a potential product or installation issue varies with the type of problem. Basically, if a problem does develop, return to AutoNav 2000 Plus, Inc. and discuss the problem with us to get a resolution. (1-408-298-8188)

7. Can I put the antenna on my dash instead of the exterior of the vehicle?
A: The antenna must be placed on the exterior of the vehicle to ensure optimum performance. Being that GPS is a line of site satellite system, any obstruction between the antenna and the satellite will interrupt the signal and degrade performance. Just place the antenna on the roof, run the cable through the door and tuck the wire behind the seat and out of the way of the driver.
8. I have a convertible, where is the best place to put the antenna?
A: The roof of your car provides the best location for an unobstructed view of the GPS satellites. Of course, for convertibles or other non-magnetic roof tops the roof is not an option. An alternate selection is the trunk lid, topside of a fender, or the hood.
Back to Top | Back to Setup
9. How long is the GPS Antenna and Display Cables?
A: The GPS Antenna is 12 feet. This should be long enough for almost any vehicle on the road. There is a 20 foot GPS Antenna available for anyone needing an extended length. There is also an extension GPS cable available from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc. for end users that require longer then 12' or shorter than 20'. The Display cable is 5 feet. There is a 16 foot extension available for the display cable. Both cables can be purchased by calling AutoNav 2000 Plus. Inc. at (1 408-298-8188) or order online.
